Guide to UK Garden Hose Fittings

Garden hose fittings in the UK typically come in standard sizes to ensure compatibility and ease of use. The most common size for UK garden hose fittings are: 1/2 inch (13mm) but in some large gardens you may find 19mm hose which requires the 3/4 inch(19mm)connector. Brands are normally interchangeable and will all click together although if you come across any leaks we would advice sticking to the same brand.

Hose Connector

A hose connector also known as a hose coupling is the most common hose fitting you will come across. Used to attached you hose to the tap connector, the side of a hose reel and also any attachments you might want to use with your hose. 90% of the UK you will fined the hose connector size will be for 13mm (1/2") hose. But in some cases a larger 19mm hose may have been used so you will need the 19mm connector.

Hose Connector Water Stop

A very common fitting which is attached at the end of your hose Pipe. It allows you to connect your hose to a many attachments e.g spray nozzles. sprinklers or spray guns. The benefit of using a water stop over a standard hose connector is when you remove the spray gun the water will stop and won't continue to spray everywhere.

Tap connector

This screws onto your outside tap and allows you to fit standard push fit hose connectors on and off your tap with ease. most common size in the UK is 3/4 BSP but other sizes are possible and especially if your tap is very old. look at our blog on how to measure your tap

Hose Repairer

A hose repairer enables you to join two naked hose pipes together. Useful for repairs or for extending you garden hose in you need it to be longer.

This hose extension joint allows you to extend or join a hose that has connectors already fitted to it.

Ideal for changing accessories without turning off the tap. especially suitable for high water pressure.

Less Common Garden Hose Fittings

Accessory Adapter

This adapted allows you to change any item with a 3/4" female thread into a connection that your standard 13mm hose connector will fit onto to. This is often a sprinkler but there are may other application where this is useful.

Threaded Hose Connector

This adapted allows you to change any item with a 3/4" female thread into a connection that your standard 13mm male hose connector will fit into. A common use is for a washing machine pipe. We have also found it usefully in converting underground pipes systems like Gardena's pipe line from the larger 25mm hard plastic pipe to a standard 13mm hose pipe.

Water Meter For Garden Hose

This inline Water meter attaches to a standard hose connector and is used to measure water consumption. Very usefully when you want to monitor have much water you are gving each plant.
