Guide to UK Garden Hose Fittings

Garden hose fittings in the UK typically come in standard sizes to ensure compatibility and ease of use. The most common size for UK garden hose fittings are: 1/2 inch (13mm) but in some large gardens you may find 19mm hose which requires the 3/4 inch(19mm)connector. Brands are normally interchangeable and will all click together although if you come across any leaks we would advice sticking to the same brand.

To attach a hose to a garden tap which has a thread you will need a tap adapter which will normally be 3/4 BSP. For help identifying your tap size take a look at our blog Garden tap thread size.

Below we are going to take a look at each garden hose fitting you might need when setting up your watering system. We will look at the 7 most common hose connectors first and then further down the page we will show you some of the less common connectors, which are very usefully in more complicated irrigation set ups.
