Robot mower FAQs
A few of the questions we’re asked most often when customers are deciding whether robotic mowing is right for them.
Do robot lawn mowers still need a boundary wire?
Not always. Many newer machines use GPS/RTK/EPOS or vision technology to work without a traditional perimeter wire. Wired systems are still useful on some gardens where satellite reception or layout makes them the better choice.
Can one mower cut several separate lawns?
Often, yes. Suitable models can manage multiple mowing areas and, depending on the site, use transport paths to travel between lawns. The exact solution depends on how the areas are connected.
Will a wireless mower work under trees?
It depends on the amount of sky visibility, the model and the technology being used. Trees and buildings can affect satellite reception, which is why we assess complex gardens before recommending a wireless setup.
Can a robotic mower cross a path?
Many installations can be designed so the mower travels across suitable paths between lawn areas. Surface type, steps, kerbs and the mower model all matter.
Do I need professional installation?
Not for every garden. Straightforward domestic installations can often be completed by the owner. For larger or more complicated lawns, professional planning and setup can prevent expensive mistakes and make the system much easier to live with.
How do I know which mower is big enough?
Maximum lawn area is a useful starting point, but layout, slopes, passages, separate lawns and the amount of mowing time available are also important. For complex gardens, we recommend an assessment rather than choosing on area alone.
